Where do we go from here?

Life has taken a turn. So many of us were hopeful that Trump could not possibly get re-elected. He’s a racist. A fascist. A misogynist. A rapist. A criminal. A liar.

Yet more than half of our country just voted him in.

I’m angry. I’m frightened for my family, friends and neighbors who will be directly affected by the policies he has threatened.

Here’s the thing. I am not keeping Trump voters on my friends lists. I don’t need to see their bs on my feed. I’m not keeping them in my life. I don’t need their hatred in my life. But I will say this: I will not tell them to never contact me again. I believe that my friends and family are misguided, not evil. There is still hope for them to come around. Do I think it’s likely? Not the way things are right now. But I can hope that they will see what a Trump presidency does to this country and see that re-electing him was a huge mistake so when it comes time for the next election there is no question that Vance cannot be next.

So, where DO we go from here?

On my personal front, I am dressing for a revolution. Black pants, black shirt or anti-Trump anti-hatred shirts, pearls and (on some days) Chucks are my new uniform. That may sound silly, but it makes me feel stronger. It makes me feel part of something. It makes me feel like I can do the work that needs to be done.

Next, I’m volunteering with organizations that help the communities most affected by this election result. I’ll be hosting local events to give us a chance to grieve together, and then to mobilize. There is work to be done. A LOT of work over the next four years. I’m giving myself this long weekend to recover, but then it’s time to get back to work.

I’m lucky to live in a blue state. But that doesn’t mean I can sit back and relax.

So for starters, here are some organizations that you can join, donate to, volunteer with, or just share on your social media so those who want to/can help know where to go:

https://freemomhugs.org – a nationwide movement of love, visibility and acceptance for the LGBTQIA+ community

https://front.moveon.org – Move On is a movement for social justice and political progress. You’ve likely seen their petitions online.

https://weareworthfightingfor.org – We are worth fighting for. Our future and our ideals.

https://workingfamilies.org – Making our nation work for the many, not the few. They are fighting for OUR rights. Not the 1%.

Feel free to add others in the comments.

And if this post has offended you in any way, I am not your people. You stumbled in here by mistake. Find a different blog.

We ride at dawn.
